Acne

Acne occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil (sebum) and dead skin cells, leading to the formation of whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, and, in more severe cases, cysts or nodules. This process is often influenced by factors such as hormonal fluctuations, genetics, stress, and diet. The presence of acne-causing bacteria (Cutibacterium acnes) can also contribute to inflammation and breakouts.

Causes of acne

While acne is most commonly associated with adolescence, it can persist into adulthood, affecting self-confidence and skin health. Effective treatment involves a combination of medical-grade skincare, prescription medications, and advanced skin care treatments to regulate oil production, reduce inflammation, and prevent scarring. Our clinic provides personalised acne management plans to address the root causes and help you achieve and maintain clear, healthy skin.

AlumierMD facial

AlumierMD facial - a professional skin treatment using AlumierMD products, which are medical-grade and designed to target specific skin concerns like acne, hyperpigmentation, and sensitivity. The AlumierMD facial includes a combination of exfoliating acids (usually lactic acid and salicylic acid) to remove dead skin cells and promote cell renewal, and can reduce inflammation in acne-prone skin by reducing excess oil, unclogging pores, and minimising breakouts due to their specialised formulas and protocols. We include LED therapy in our AlumierMD facials to reduce bacterial growth and calm inflammation.

DMK Enzyme

DMK Enzyme facial is a specialised skin treatment from Danné Montague-King (DMK) that focuses on revitalising the skin at a cellular level using enzyme therapy. It’s designed to improve circulation, oxygenation, and lymphatic drainage while stimulating collagen production. The facial involves applying a custom enzyme mask that hardens as it dries, creating a tightening effect on the skin. This process stimulates what’s called the “plasmatic effect”, where blood vessels expand, increasing oxygen and nutrient flow to the skin. This can result in visible capillary activation, often appearing as a red or veiny pattern on the skin after removal—this is completely normal and indicates good circulation. This flush of oxygen to the skin detoxifies and removes impurities, reduces acne, rosacea, and inflammation, and evens out skin tone and reduces pigmentation.

NeoGen

NeoGen - NeoGen Plasma is an advanced skin regeneration treatment that uses nitrogen plasma energy to rejuvenate the skin, improve texture, and stimulate collagen production. Unlike lasers, which use light, NeoGen converts nitrogen gas into plasma energy that heats the skin in a controlled way to trigger healing and regeneration. The plasma energy has an antibacterial effect, reducing C. acnes bacteria that contribute to breakouts. It also regulates sebum production, and reduces redness & inflammation, helping calm active acne and irritation, making it great for sensitive, acne-prone skin. NeoGen can also help scarring as it stimulates collagen production which helps rebuild and smooth out atrophic (indented) acne scars; resurfaces the skin, gently removing damaged skin layers, improving texture and tone; tightens & firms skin, improving elasticity, reducing fine lines and post-acne skin laxity, and evens skin tone which can fade post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) and dark spots left by acne.

Scarring - severe acne, especially cystic acne, can cause permanent scars, including pitted (atrophic) scars and raised (hypertrophic) scars.
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation - persistent long term pigmentation change can occur after the inflammation heals. This is more common in darker skin tones.
Persistent redness - untreated acne can cause long-term redness, particularly in conditions like rosacea-associated acne.
